100% pure, fresh water Diatomaceous Earth. Also known as fossil shell flour, Food Grade DE is a non-toxic, safe form of pest control. Diatomite is the fossilized skeletal remains of microscopic single-celled aquatic plants known as diatoms (algae). A crystal shell protects these tiny organisms. When the organisms die, the shells pile up on the bottom of oceans and lakes to form deposits. These deposits are then mined from underwater beds or from ancient dried lake bottoms.
Once they have been mined they can be milled or processed for a variety of uses.
When fossil shell flour is used in agriculture, it must be milled until it is almost completely amorphous. This means it has no crystalline form left which can cause damage to larger organisms. Instead, it has microscopic razor sharp edges, which are easily picked up by the tiny hairs on the bodies of most insects. It scratches through their protective wax layers and as they absorb it the insects lose water rapidly, dehydrate and die.
Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth contains 15 beneficial trace minerals and eliminates whipworms, roundworms, pinworms and hookworms within 7 days of being fed daily. Feed DE for a minimum of 30 days to ensure all developing worms are destroyed.
DE has no chemical toxicity and is safe for internal use. It is an extremely effective way to eliminate parasites without the use of chemicals. Although it is 99.5% amorphous silica, DE should not be inhaled.
